Quality optimization

Tips for getting the best quality from your Mont exports

Mont exports at fixed quality settings, but you can optimize your source content and workflow for the best results.

Export specifications

All exports use these settings:

  • Resolution: 1920×1080 (1080p)
  • Frame rate: 30 fps
  • Video bitrate: 5 Mbps
  • Audio bitrate: 192 kbps

These are fixed to ensure consistent, high-quality output.

Optimizing source content

Screen recordings

Resolution: Record at 1080p or higher. Higher resolutions give flexibility for cropping.

Content preparation:

  • Increase font sizes in apps you're recording
  • Use high-contrast color schemes
  • Close unnecessary UI elements
  • Maximize the window you're demonstrating

Camera recordings

Lighting: Good lighting dramatically improves quality

  • Face a window or light source
  • Avoid backlighting
  • Use soft, diffused light when possible

Camera settings:

  • Position camera at eye level
  • Ensure camera lens is clean
  • Use external webcam for better quality than built-in

Audio quality

Environment:

  • Record in a quiet space
  • Reduce echo with soft furnishings
  • Close windows and doors

Microphone:

  • Use an external USB microphone when possible
  • Position microphone 6-12 inches from mouth
  • Use a pop filter if available

Editor best practices

Text clarity

  • Use fonts at 24pt or larger for readability
  • High contrast between text and background
  • Avoid thin fonts that may appear blurry

Images

  • Import images at 1920×1080 or larger
  • Use PNG for screenshots and graphics
  • Use JPEG for photographs
  • Avoid upscaling small images

Transitions

  • Keep transition durations reasonable (0.3-0.5 seconds typical)
  • Avoid overly complex animations that may stutter
  • Preview before export to verify smoothness

What doesn't affect export quality

These editor performance issues don't affect your final export:

  • Playback stuttering – Export renders frame-by-frame
  • Preview resolution – Export always uses full resolution
  • Timeline lag – Only affects editing, not output

Platform requirements

Different platforms have different quality recommendations:

Platform Notes
YouTube 1080p is standard; video will be re-encoded
Vimeo Accepts high-quality uploads
LinkedIn Max 10 minutes, 5GB
Twitter Max 2:20, 512MB

Mont's 1080p export meets requirements for all major platforms.

Re-encoding considerations

When you upload to video platforms, they re-encode your video. To minimize quality loss:

  • Export at highest available quality (Mont does this automatically)
  • Avoid re-exporting multiple times
  • Upload directly to platforms rather than re-compressing

Troubleshooting quality issues

Blurry text:

  • Use larger font sizes
  • Ensure source recordings are at sufficient resolution

Audio problems:

  • Check microphone placement
  • Re-record in a quieter environment
  • Check that audio isn't clipping (red levels)

Choppy video:

  • Simplify transitions
  • Check source video quality
  • Export and review—editor playback may be choppy while export is smooth
