File formats supported for import and export in Mont
Mont supports common media formats for import and exports to a single optimized format.
Import formats
Video
Mont accepts most common video formats for import:
- MP4 (.mp4) – H.264/AVC codec
- WebM (.webm) – VP8/VP9 codec
- MOV (.mov) – QuickTime format
Video files are transcoded for browser playback during import.
Audio
- MP3 (.mp3)
- WAV (.wav)
- M4A (.m4a) – AAC audio
- WebM (.webm) – Opus/Vorbis audio
Images
- PNG (.png) – Lossless, supports transparency
- JPEG (.jpg, .jpeg) – Compressed photos
- WebP (.webp) – Modern format, supports transparency
- GIF (.gif) – Animated images
- SVG (.svg) – Vector graphics
PNG and WebP are recommended for screenshots and graphics with transparency. JPEG works well for photographs.
Export format
Mont exports all videos in a single format optimized for compatibility:

Recording format
During recording, Mont captures video in WebM format with VP9 codec. This is converted to the standard export format when you export your project.
Limitations
- Maximum file size: Individual imports are limited by browser memory
- 4K import: Supported, but playback may be slower on older hardware
- HDR: Not supported—videos are converted to SDR
- Surround sound: Audio is mixed to stereo
