How to set up and start screen recording in Mont

Screen recording captures your display—perfect for software tutorials, demos, and presentations.

Starting a screen recording

  1. Click the Screen button in the recording controls, or press R
  2. A browser dialog appears asking what to share:
    • Entire Screen – Captures everything on one monitor
    • Window – Captures a specific application window
    • Browser Tab – Captures a single Chrome tab (with tab audio)
  3. Select your source and click Share
  4. You'll see a preview of the selected source
  5. Press Shift+R or click the record button to start recording

Cursor capture

Screen recordings always include your cursor. This helps viewers follow along with your actions. The cursor appears exactly as it does on your screen.

Recording tips

Choose the right source:

  • Use Entire Screen when you need to switch between applications
  • Use Window to keep focus on one app and hide your desktop
  • Use Browser Tab for web-based demos with tab audio

Prepare your screen:

  • Close unnecessary applications and notifications
  • Use a clean desktop or relevant working environment
  • Consider your screen resolution—Mont records at native resolution up to 4K

Audio options:

  • Enable your microphone to narrate as you record
  • For browser tab capture, you can include the tab's audio (like video playback)

Stopping the recording

Press Space to stop recording. Your recording automatically appears as a clip on the timeline, ready for editing.
