Solutions to common issues you might encounter while using Mont.
Recording issues
Can't start screen recording
"Permission denied" or no sharing dialog appears:
- Check that you're using Chrome or Edge (Firefox/Safari not supported)
- Ensure the page has permission to capture screen—look for the camera icon in the address bar
- Try refreshing the page
Screen share dialog appears but recording doesn't start:
- Make sure you selected a source and clicked "Share"
- Check for browser console errors (F12 → Console)
Recording stops unexpectedly
Possible causes:
- Device disconnected (camera, microphone)
- Browser tab crashed due to memory
- System went to sleep
Prevention:
- Keep devices connected throughout recording
- Close unused tabs to free memory
- Adjust system sleep settings for long recordings
No audio in recording
- Check that the microphone icon is not muted
- Verify the correct microphone is selected in settings
- Check browser permissions for microphone access
- Test your microphone in system settings
Playback issues
Video stutters or lags
In the editor:
- Close other browser tabs
- Reduce the browser window size
- Wait for video chunks to load (check network activity)
This doesn't affect export quality—exports are rendered frame-by-frame at full quality.
Audio out of sync
- Try refreshing the page
- Check if the issue persists in the exported video
- If only in editor, it may be a playback performance issue
Export issues
Export fails or freezes
- Ensure you have enough disk space (check the estimate before starting)
- Close other browser tabs to free memory
- Try exporting a shorter section first
- Refresh and try again
Export is slow
Export speed depends on:
- Project length and complexity
- Your CPU/GPU capabilities
- Available memory
Close other applications and browser tabs for fastest export.
Can't save export file
"File System Access API not supported":
- Use Chrome or Edge (Safari doesn't support this API)
- See System requirements
Save dialog doesn't appear:
- Disable popup blockers for Mont
- Try a different download location
Project issues
Project won't load
- Check your internet connection
- Try refreshing the page
- Clear browser cache and reload
- Check if other projects load correctly
Changes not saving
Mont auto-saves to the cloud. If you see save errors:
- Check your internet connection
- Look for error messages in the interface
- Avoid closing the tab while "Saving..." is shown
Missing media in project
If imported media shows as missing:
- The original file may have been deleted from browser storage
- Re-import the media file
- For recordings, check if upload completed successfully
Browser-specific issues
Chrome
Hardware acceleration issues:
- Go to
chrome://settings/system - Toggle "Use hardware acceleration" and restart
Edge
Same as Chrome—Edge uses the same engine.
Still having issues?
If you can't resolve an issue:
- Note the exact error message (if any)
- Check browser console for errors (F12 → Console)
- Try in a fresh browser profile to rule out extensions
- Check System requirements for compatibility
