Solutions to common issues you might encounter while using Mont.

Recording issues

Can't start screen recording

"Permission denied" or no sharing dialog appears:

  1. Check that you're using Chrome or Edge (Firefox/Safari not supported)
  2. Ensure the page has permission to capture screen—look for the camera icon in the address bar
  3. Try refreshing the page

Screen share dialog appears but recording doesn't start:

  1. Make sure you selected a source and clicked "Share"
  2. Check for browser console errors (F12 → Console)

Recording stops unexpectedly

Possible causes:

  • Device disconnected (camera, microphone)
  • Browser tab crashed due to memory
  • System went to sleep

Prevention:

  • Keep devices connected throughout recording
  • Close unused tabs to free memory
  • Adjust system sleep settings for long recordings

No audio in recording

  1. Check that the microphone icon is not muted
  2. Verify the correct microphone is selected in settings
  3. Check browser permissions for microphone access
  4. Test your microphone in system settings

Playback issues

Video stutters or lags

In the editor:

  • Close other browser tabs
  • Reduce the browser window size
  • Wait for video chunks to load (check network activity)

This doesn't affect export quality—exports are rendered frame-by-frame at full quality.

Audio out of sync

  1. Try refreshing the page
  2. Check if the issue persists in the exported video
  3. If only in editor, it may be a playback performance issue

Export issues

Export fails or freezes

  1. Ensure you have enough disk space (check the estimate before starting)
  2. Close other browser tabs to free memory
  3. Try exporting a shorter section first
  4. Refresh and try again

Export is slow

Export speed depends on:

  • Project length and complexity
  • Your CPU/GPU capabilities
  • Available memory

Close other applications and browser tabs for fastest export.

Can't save export file

"File System Access API not supported":

Save dialog doesn't appear:

  • Disable popup blockers for Mont
  • Try a different download location

Project issues

Project won't load

  1. Check your internet connection
  2. Try refreshing the page
  3. Clear browser cache and reload
  4. Check if other projects load correctly

Changes not saving

Mont auto-saves to the cloud. If you see save errors:

  1. Check your internet connection
  2. Look for error messages in the interface
  3. Avoid closing the tab while "Saving..." is shown

Missing media in project

If imported media shows as missing:

  1. The original file may have been deleted from browser storage
  2. Re-import the media file
  3. For recordings, check if upload completed successfully

Browser-specific issues

Chrome

Hardware acceleration issues:

  • Go to chrome://settings/system
  • Toggle "Use hardware acceleration" and restart

Edge

Same as Chrome—Edge uses the same engine.

Still having issues?

If you can't resolve an issue:

  1. Note the exact error message (if any)
  2. Check browser console for errors (F12 → Console)
  3. Try in a fresh browser profile to rule out extensions
  4. Check System requirements for compatibility
